my first age-appropriate blog. target audience: family

Okay, so i’m here. about 76% here, as i’m still waking up. It’s a lovey bright shiny day here in Much Hadham, which you should all be jealous of, by the way. Today I am hoping to see some squirrels/chipmunks and find a phone card, bus timetable, show my face at the local pub.

Also plan to walk the length of the village. It’s only one road (!) lined with little leaning houses made of horsepoo and wood and it’s very ponsy. Apparently there is a Women’s Society (lol) where they have competetions about cake, as Dan put it. I plan on joining for a laugh. I’ll make courgette cake and they’ll be flabbergasted yet enlightened. They’ll be appalled at my quality of knitting.

Speaking of, am wearing my ”booties” that grandma knitted me, feet are quite delicate after swelling up from plane.. ew.. i had kankles in a big way..  so cheers grandma.

Plane trip 60% boring/dark/smelly/sick, 10% overwhelmingly exciting, 30% very pleasant. Sorry to be so vague about it, but really can’t be helped the first plane was predictably a roaring tiny squishy beast, on which i enjoyed the turbulence but most of the time was blubbering in a very messy way. Saw you all waving- it sucked, i was a mess, but that was the worst over. second plane was a stunner, they were always putting things under your nose- here! food! how ’bout a movie? some traditional thai music? why don’t you set your watch differently! here, have some wine! some whisky! with ice! use the purple blanket! and the footrest! hey, the loo is free, go for a walk! play a game on the entertainment system! look, the clouds have cleared, TA – DA, Australia!

All this was pretty much enough to keep me happy and amused til we got to Bangkok- which was very pretty all lit up from a plane. also a bit of mystery thrown in for laughs- outside Vietnam, over the water, huge lights (way bigger than city lights) all glow-y and starry. can’t figure it out. Australia was pretty fun to look at too, seriously unhealthy, all cracked and blistery and burning.

Bangkok airport: channel intergalactic time warping space worm. x23. = bangkok airport. honest.

I kept buying food to sit down, and inevitably ate the food. which was nice, except that croissant with a sausage innit. that was just weird. all for pretty cheap tho i guess. unless you have money in there, it’s very boring.

Next flight was… pretty gross. had none of the wee fun things the other one did. it was dark because we were meant to sleep, and i couldn’t look out the window, so i sat in darkness, and waited

and waited

and waited

12 hours later, heathrow (love acutally) which was very everything-i-expected, lots of people, militant man in customs, a bit too hot. (no, not that militant man, the weather..)

got found, driven home on the M25 which is this motorway which circles london, saw many british things, got to our village which is AMAZING.

Edward and Robert view me as this WONDERFUL new plaything, so i play along, ha ha ha, poor kids when they find out i’m not really so much fun.. oh sure i am just you wait n see, what’s so hard about lego and swings and juice and monster trucks and fetching the dummy when robert (again) bumps his head on something and cries? i think the novelty started to wear off when we were playing monster trucks and i would fall asleep on them..

which brings me to where i am now. Have had nearly 20 hours sleep, feel much better despite being awake at 5.30am. Had moment of epiphany and confusion upon discovering that pulgs are a different shape. dammit.

My great-granddad used to own a bit of Heathrow Airport, he had a pig farm there. Fun fact.
And there are no chipmunks in English so don’t hold your breath. Squirrels are great though. I used to feed them chocolate buttons when I lived in England. Go to a pet store and look at hamsters. They too are great.

It’s time I tried to negotiate this blog thing. If you can get lost & found in Bristol. Surely I can manage this without getting too badly lost.
Great comments Laura. Love the travel documentary. You’re meeting HEAPS of interesting people.
It’s raining here – again, & windy and trees uprooted or broken down. Lots of mess to clean up. Keep enjoying the UK summer.
Heaps of love (and REAL HUGS via the internet!!!)
Grandma (& Grandad-who is asleep right now as it is 12.15am)
